Hong Kong
Hong Kong. The amazing overview from the top of Victoria Peak, on the southern edge of Hong Kong. We took the tram to get up here; the city spans both sides of Hong Kong Harbor below.
Kowloon. Another amazing view, this time looking back the other way (the photo above was taken from the top of the far-right mountain across the harbor). This photo of Wendy on a rainy Hong Kong day was taken from "Sky100", an observation deck on the 100th floor of the tallest building in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong. One of my favorite photos of Wendy on this trip, in Man Mo Temple in Hong Kong. The spirals hanging from the ceiling are incense coils. It smells great in here, if you like heavy incense.
In a city surrounded by water and spread across several islands, boats are often the best way to get around. This is the most popular ferry route in town, running between the two huge cities of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.
Since Wendy is a Disney-phile we of course had to go to the Asian version of Disneyland in Hong Kong. It's much-much smaller than the only other Disney I've ever been to (Orlando) but it makes up for lack of size with lots of Asian charm. It didn't seem nearly as crowded as Disney in Orlando, but that was partly due to a typhoon that was blowing through on this day!
Above: A quick sightseeing walk between rain showers. Check out the tiny castle off in the distance - WAY smaller than the one in Orlando. It was being rebuilt to near Orlando-size in 2018.
Right : Meeting the Asian Mickey/Minnie.
Hong Kong. The urban jungle.
Hong Kong is a city/state, meaning that the city IS the country. It's mostly urban though, but with some beautiful bits of nature dispersed throughout.
If you're an adventurous eater Asia may be the perfect place for you. I honestly thought that a highly urbanized & sophisticated place like Hong Kong might be a little more mellow on the culinary extremes that you tend to find elsewhere through Asia, but I don't think these (formerly) flying lizards are being sold as kites.
Crossing Hong Kong Harbour by night - even prettier than in the day.
Losing a round to the master - hometown hero Bruce Lee.
